In this dream, I entered into the Jealousy of God.It was a very frightening experience. The
clarity, purity, majesty, holiness, and unbridled power displayed were so
overwhelming I said to myself several times in the dream “You are dead”“You are dead.” I even pinched myself in the
dream as I knew I should be dead but didn’t seem to be dead quite yet. When I
woke up in the morning, I actually pinched myself again as I thought I must be
dead. The dream was that real.
No flesh could survive the staggering displays of power and
purity I experienced. It would instantly be vaporized and destroyed. The terror
of that experience stayed with me for several weeks and the memory of it is as
clear as if I was still in it.
What does this mean?
This is one of God’s names or definition of His character. Exodus 34:14 says:Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
While God’s righteous jealousy is always at work in the
lives of His children, I believe we are in a short season of getting right with
God through deep repentance and brokenness of heart over the state of our own
spiritual condition and the condition of the church in general. At the end of
this very short grace period, God’s righteous jealousy will begin to move among
us in a heightened way.It seems this aspect of God's character is drawing closer daily.
Let me issue a serious word of warning: THIS IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE TRIFLED
WITH OR PLAYED FAST AND LOOSE WITH. There is an urgency to get right with God.
I implore you not to brush this off. Please go before the Lord and allow Him to
work His deep cleansing work.
Only those who are “dead” to self and alive to God will flourish in this season.
This quote from John Piper sums this up wonderfully well:
"God is infinitely jealous for the honor of his name, and responds with
terrible wrath against those whose hearts should belong to him but go after
other things. For example, in Ezekiel
16:38-40 he says to faithless Israel, "I will judge you as women who
break wedlock and shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath
and jealousy. And I will give you into the hand of your lovers and
they shall throw down your vaulted chamber . . . they shall strip you of your
clothes and take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. They shall
bring up a host against you and cut you to pieces with swords."
I urge you to listen to this warning. The jealousy of God for your undivided
love and devotion will always have the last say. Whatever lures your affections
away from God with deceptive attraction will come back to strip you bare and
cut you in pieces. It is a horrifying thing to use your God-given life to
commit adultery against the Almighty.
But for those of you who have been truly united to Christ and who keep your
vows to forsake all others and cleave only to him and live for his honor—for
you the jealousy of God is a great comfort and a great hope. Since God is
infinitely jealous for the honor of his name, anything and anybody who
threatens the good of his faithful wife will be opposed with divine omnipotence."
It's up to us. Will we choose to draw near the Holy and Living God and be cleansed and transformed by His mighty power? I pray we will
